Coobowie bird hide

The Coobowie Estuary is a popular attraction for birdwatchers and nature lovers due to its remarkable variety of birdlife.

Nestled at the edge of the estuary is the Coobowie Bird Hide, a bird observation deck that provides a wonderful vantage point for observing a wide range of bird species in their natural habitat. Visitors can obtain a complimentary brochure from Coobowie Caravan Park or the Coobowie Shop to assist in identifying the species. The bird hide is also conveniently located near a walking trail that offers scenic views of the surrounding scenery.

Walk the Yorke

Walk the Yorke provides more than 500 kilometres of continuous shared walking and cycling leisure trails. With coastal trails & town walks, Walk the Yorke showcases Yorke Peninsula’s spectacular coastline, diverse coastal communities and environments unique to ‘Yorkes’.

Now in both directions out of the caravan park entrance, the Walk the Yorke trail proves to be popular way to explore the coastline. Heading to the left, will take you to Wool Bay via Port Giles and Hickeys Point. Follow the trail to the right takes you to Edithburgh and around to Sultana Point. Here you will see beautiful beaches hugging the rugged coastline while taking in the abundant bird life, glimpses of the Gulf St Vincent and the occasional dolphin frolicking.

Dhilba-Guuranda Innes National Park

At the tip of the Peninsula, you will find spectacular coastal landscapes with rugged cliffs and sandy beaches that provide the backdrop of Dhilba-Guuranda-Innes National Park. Discover the historic mining ghost town of Inneston, check out the remains of the Ethel shipwreck and witness the abundant native wildlife. You can also go bushwalking, fishing, learn about maritime and mining history and even fit in a surf if you have time! Please be aware that many of the beaches have dangerous rips.

Markets

There are many local markets that open seasonally across lower Yorke Peninsula.

Ardrossan Markets: Ardrossan Pop-up markets are organized by a small group of volunteers to provide an outlet for local people to sell their produce. Held in the Town Square with local producers and other goods.

Pepper Tree Markets: Situated in Minlaton, behind the Porter Building and next to town hall in the main street, this unique community market usually takes place on the second Saturday of each month from 8.30am until 1.30pm. Friday night Summer Twilight markets also take place. These markets feature locally made, grown and baked goods.

Edithburgh Community Market: Edithburgh Market is very popular with both local and visitors alike. Offering a variety of wares along with freshly baked goodies, favourites like sausage rolls, jelly cakes, homemade pasties; good old fashion jams and preserves. The Market is located in the Edithburgh Institute. Usually held on the second Sunday of each month from 9.00 am until 1.00 pm.

Stansbury Markets: Extremely popular, the Stansbury Seaside Markets are much loved by locals and visitors alike. With a strong following, they are run on various dates from October through to April each year. Situated along the foreshore at Beautiful Stansbury overlooking stunning Oyster Bay, these markets are a must when visiting the Southern Yorke Peninsula during the warmer months.

Coobowie Visitor Information & Shop

Coobowie Shop is perfectly positioned only a short walk from the Coobowie Caravan Park. We offer great take-away and dine-in meals from our extensive menu as well as fresh coffee, groceries, hardware, local seafood, ice, bait and tackle.

We also have Post Office facilities, visitor information, banking, phone recharge, papers and magazines, along with petrol and diesel pumps!

Coobowie Visitor Information Outlet is located within the Coobowie Shop. The iPad is set to Yorke Peninsula so you can use the device to explore the attractions, businesses and places of interest. The iPad can also be used for camping permits and booking a National Parks pass to explore Dhilba-Guuranda Innes National Park

Barley Stacks Winery

Barley Stacks Wines was the first commercial vineyard and winery to be established on the traditional barley belt of the Yorke Peninsula, South Australia.

A short drive away from the historic town of Maitland, Barley Stacks Wines offers visitors a unique Australian experience unlike any other. The wine produced at Barley Stacks Wines is made from the grapes grown in the Barley Stacks Wines vineyards, which are crushed, fermented, stored and bottled right on site.

The Barley Stacks Wines Cellar Door and Function Centre is open 10am-5pm 7 days a week. Tasting experiences, electric car charging as well as pizzas and cheese platters are also available 7 days a week.

Visit Beaches

You will find beautiful safe, sandy beaches in and around Coobowie, including Sultana Point. You can also try out a local favourite, the tidal pool at Edithburgh.

If you head further afield, you can experience the fabulous surf beaches of the western coast or the calmer waters of Hardwicke Bay, Stansbury and Point Turton,

Fishing and Boating

Popular local fishing spots include Hickey’s Point, Wool Bay, Port Giles, Stansbury and Edithburgh. You will find ramps to launch your boat at Hickey’s Point, Wool Bay, Stansbury and Edithburgh. The Wool Bay, Stansbury and Edithburgh jetties are also popular for fishing and crabbing. Catches often include mullet, yellow fin, whiting, tommies, squid, and blue swimmer crabs. If oysters are more your taste, you will find Pacific Estate Oysters at Stansbury a priority visit on your list. If you’re a keen diver, Edithburgh jetty is a popular spot for spectacular diving experiences including the possibility of sighting a Leafy Sea Dragon.
